The Project
In Summer 2024, I partnered with Level Ground Mixed Martial Arts, a Boston-based nonprofit that uses MMA, mentorship, and academic support to expand opportunity for urban youth. They were preparing to recruit new board members and needed a polished, story-driven prospectus to share with prospective leaders. 
My role was to shape the narrative, organize complex information, and design a modern, on-brand PDF for emails, one-on-one outreach, and presentations. The final piece is a 10-page digital board prospectus that introduces Level Ground’s mission, model, and impact, while clearly outlining what it means to serve on the board.
The Challenge
Level Ground’s team had strong program results and a powerful story, but their board opportunities weren't strong. Prospective board members needed:
• A way to understand who Level Ground is.
• Clear expectations around board responsibilities.
• To understand how their leadership would support youth. 
The challenge was to bring all of this together into one cohesive, visually confident piece that felt aligned with Level Ground’s brand—rooted in sport, equity, and community, while still reading like a professional board recruitment tool.
The Outcome
I developed a board recruitment prospectus that walks prospective members from inspiration to action:
Mission & Model, at a glance: A bold cover and “About Level Ground” spread introduce the organization’s vision, mixed martial arts–based model, and four core pillars—Athletic Excellence, Academic Support, Employment & Leadership, and Mentorship & Belonging. 
Impact that’s easy to grasp: Key metrics (1,200+ youth engaged, 95% reporting increased confidence, 80%+ pursuing education or employment) are highlighted alongside photography of young people on the mats, grounding the numbers in real faces and experiences. 
Clear board pathway: Dedicated spreads outline the Board's role, who they’re looking for, expectations, term lengths, and the application process—making next steps transparent and straightforward for busy leaders. 
The result is a visually cohesive, easy-to-share prospectus that Level Ground can use across outreach channels to attract values-aligned, equity-focused board candidates—and to tell a more compelling story about how leadership fuels their mission.
